Having to be heard that you’ve been swapped at birth isn’t very good news. In fact, it’s horrible. Terrible. But there are kids in the world who had been swapped, or kidnapped, or having their parents killed. If you want to hear about those kind of stories, go somewhere else, because this story is about a girl, who has a twisted summer when she goes to a camping trip. Let’s get a move on… Living on Madison street is a girl named Alexis, she lived with her parents in a small house in New York. They had a golden retriever named Waggle, who didn’t like anyone to bother them except for Alexis. Only Alexis. It was about the beginning of summer in June when Mr. Lewis announced that they were going to go to India but Alexis isn’t going. Instead she is going to a camp called Camp New Yorkers, a stupid camp for kids who don’t have anything to do over the summer. She’s going there until her parents get back from their trip to India. Her mother had agreed to this but Alexis on the other hand was furious. Why couldn’t she go to India with her parents during the summer? Why did she have to go to camp? “Dad! Mom! Don’t go! I want to go to India with you!” Alexis would always say whenever Mrs. Lewis would make an action of packing. “I want to go too!” “Stop whining Alexis. We’ve already boarded you for the camp! Dad and I will be leaving next week and you are going to camp in two days! Better go pack, it’s a three week camp!” Mrs. Lewis snapped. After those words, Alexis gave up and went up to her room and shut the door tightly. Isn’t the summer for time with families? She forced herself to grab her blue luggage bag and stuff a pile of clothes in there. Done, she thought. Wait…I need to pack some other stuff too…she began to stuff more stuff until the luggage bag was so full that it weighed about 40 pounds. “Oh great, I forgot to pack my books and my stuffed animals!” This frustrated her. Two days passed by very quickly, reluctantly, she said quick goodbyes to her friends. “Well, this is it Maria, going to camp…again. So, call me whenever you can during the night!” Alexis hugged her and went into her car. “Come on, this is going to be great, camp? I mean seriously, there’s the food and the friends there that you can make! Come on think of it!” Mr. Lewis said. “Besides, it’s only two–” “three.” “Aint’t helping yourself right?” Mr. Lewis focused on his driving instead of trying to make Alexis feel better. “Only ten more minutes till we’re there!” She looked out the window and saw a busy highway filled with cars. Oh great. It was a long drive, but before she knew it, she was there. Camp New Yorkers. She took out he stuff and hugged goodbye with her mom and dad and stood in the clearing staring at the cabins. “Are you…Amelia Fitzpatrick?” asked a lady holding a clipboard. “No.” she introduced herself to the lady and she brought her to her cabin. Cabin number three. The lady, otherwise known as Ms. Margaret, was the second headmaster in the camp. Alexis lugged her stuff into the cabin as slowly as she could, only finding two girls inside the cabin. “Hello…I’m Alexis!” The two girls looked up, on wearing black and looking gothic and the other one looking rather more cheerful listening to an iPod. The room was fabulous, there were exactly six beds, and one drawer for each of the girls. There was a huge window next to the side of the bed the goth girl was sitting on. The door was big enough and inside the door was a screen door. The cabin was safe enough if there was any burglars coming. There was also a huge bathroom on the right side of the cabin, it had two toilets, and two shower stalls, and three sinks. It was quite clean. After a while, the girl with the iPod started talking. “Hey. I’m Wendy…and that’s Nicole…she’s quiet.” Wendy said, and took off her earphones and jumped to Alexis. “Wanna sleep on the bed next to mine?” Wow, she’s rather cheerful than miserable. “Sure, why not?” She got her stuff on the bed and plopped herself on the bed. “How long have you been here?” “Not long actually, maybe one hour.” Wendy looked over at Nicole. “She’s been here two days.” Her voice lowered, “her parents accidentally dropped her off here because they thought if she’s ate the counselors would kick her out.” Alexis giggled. “Can they actually do that?” “No!” Wendy’s voice turned into a laugh. “That’s why she’s sitting there unconscious!” She laughed even harder. Alexis took a quick glance at Nicole. She looked pretty scary, but lonely at the same time. “Hey Nicole. Whatcha doing?” Alexis’ voice forced itself out. Nicole looked at her and shrugged. “Okay then…” “Don’t try talking to her, she never replys.” Wendy whispered. Alexis nodded. Then another girl walked in and looked at them. She quickly looked away. She was rather fat compared to Alexis, her pants looked as if it’d blast open anytime soon. “Is this only a girl’s camp? Or boy’s too?” “Since it’s called Camp New Yorkers, I think it’s both boys and girls…oh hey look outside, it’s a boy…so that means it’s both boys and girls…” Wendy said, then the new girl sighed. “What’s wrong?” “Nothing, just that I have five siblings that are boys…cant stand them.” She laughed. “Anyways, I’m Kai. Who’re you?” “She’s Wendy, and the girl over there with the goth clothes is Nicole, and I’m Alexis.” Alexis introduced herself. “You look oddly familiar, Alexis.” Kai said. She shook her head. “No, maybe I got it wrong.” Kai laughed. “Anybody else coming?” It was quite a long day for Alexis, trying to coop with Kai, since she’s to talkative and never rests. At Midnight, Cabin Three was still awake, because of Kai, and of Alexis’ phone call from Maria. Wendy looked as if she’d die any second. Nicole just went to sleep. Alexis pulled her cover over and took out her cell phone and called Maria. “Hey Alexis. How’s camp?” Maria’s voice came over the phone. “Actually it’s quite good…met a few friends. But first day was pretty boring…maybe tomorrow it’ll be better.” Alexis sighed. “That’s good to hear…your mom and dad just got back here like two hours ago, I don’t know why so late, maybe you should call them.” “No, I’m still staying mad at them for making me going to camp.” “Well…you cant be mad at them forever…well I got to go now. Bye, talk to you tomorrow.” She hung up really fast. True… I cant stay mad at them forever…she thought. She dialed her mom’s cell phone number and waited. Nobody picked up. Maybe they’re sleeping already. No, but that’s impossible, they go to sleep at three o’clock. She decided to call a farm boy near her house about one mile to check out her mom and dad and see if they were home. He came back home and called Alexis and told her that they weren’t home, but he didn’t know where they went. She gave up trying and went to sleep.
At the same time, farmer boy Jason looked out the window and tried finding the Lewis family’s house. He was sure that Mr. and Mrs. Lewis wasn’t home and he had told Alexis the correct information. Unless…unless Mr. Lewis already left for India and Mrs. Lewis went with him too. He wore his jacket and jumped on his car as fast as he could and road down the farm road. It was dark. Darker than what Jason had imagined. “Oh, I should of never came out!” He looked on the side of the road, Burger King, he stopped on the road and got out with his flashlight. He walked into the store and saw someone he didn’t expect to see. Mr. Henry Lewis. “What was he doing here?” he thought. “Hello Mr. Lewis.” “Hi my boy, why here so late?” Mr. Lewis asked, “Your that farmer Jone’s boy right? Jason?” “Yes, why do you work here?” Jason asked. “It’s my night shift.” “Really? Never knew that you worked here! I thought you York Times only worked with the newspaper…what’s that called, New York Times?” “Yes, but I’ve decided to take on a nightshift here.” “Where’s Mrs. Lewis?” Jason was asking Mr. Lewis too much questions, he felt as if he’s a detective agent. “I do not know really. Maybe she’s just away. Not sure Jason .What’s up with all of the questions? You gonna be a police one day?” Jason laughed. He’s getting on his nerves. But he didn’t get all of the information he needed for Alexis. He said goodbye and rode home.
The trumpet blasted all through camp. It was a tune of the National Anthem. “CURRENTLY seven O’CLOCK! Breakfast at eight!” Kai woke up in an instant, and to everyone’s surprise she didn’t talk at all. Wendy woke up at about 7:30, and Alexis woke at the same time. There were other girls in the cabin too, they were twins called Cherry and Belle Veldosia. They were from Spain and they were the quietest ever. Nicole didn’t bother waking up at eight. She ignored all of the shouting that told her to get up for breakfast. Alexis chose to wear a pair of black skinny jeans and a green top and a Hollister jacket. She also wore a blue hat and tied her hair into a ponytail. Kai wore the same pants again, the ones that was about to break open and she wore a black t-shirt and a tinker bell jacket. Wendy just wore a pair of jeans and a white shirt and a jacket. The Cherry and Belle Twins, wore same clothes, a pair of red pants and a yellow top. Nobody knew what Nicole wore since nobody saw her after they left for breakfast. “Attention please!” Ms. Margaret shouted across the room full of hungry kids, boys and girls. “After you eat breakfast you will know your adventure groups and know who’s in there with you. For breakfast today you are going to have pancakes, with cereal and eggs!” Everyone cheered and looked satisfied. Alexis and Wendy chose to sit on table number three, since that is their cabin number. There were other people whom she didn’t know sitting with them. “Hey, I’m Jenette. I’m in cabin five.” She smiled at Wendy and Alexis. “This is Alexis, and I’m Wendy…we’re from cabin three.” Wendy smiled sweetly. But a terrible face suddenly showed on Jenette’s face. “That’s bad. Because that was where the boys had to go to last time other kid were here!” Jenette had a sympathy looked on her face. “That’s okay, we’re fine. Nothing gross about it.” Alexis said. “At least not yet!” someone said behind them. They turned around and saw another pair of twins. “We’re Charlie and Carly. Twins. Of course, you can tell. Cabin one.” The boy said. “Well as I was saying, the boys who used to be in that cabin…ugh, let’s not talk about it.” “Well you are a boy.” Alexis murmured. Charlie glared at Alexis and looked away. The food were being served very fast. Alexis took a whole bunch of it and ate happily.
It was recreation time, Wendy and Alexis decided to go out and play games. First idea was to do crafts in the Craft Center building, but then Alexis suggested that they should go to Sports Area. “Let’s go, I want to play that.” They didn’t know what that was but there was two pairs of kids with their face covered with a piece of cloth trying to jump the stones in the river, and to see who could do it first. “Let’s go” Wendy smiled. Counselor Jeff was the person there to teach everybody how to play the game and to be safe. “Hello, young ladies! Want to play a game?” Counselor Jeff asked. “Yes. That’s why we’re here. But you need to pair up with a boy, and don’t worry, the other group does too.” Jeff explained. Jeff chose a partner for Alexis while Wendy waited for her turn. The other group was also a boy and a girl. “You guys know how to do this?” The groups nodded. “Then go!” Alexis jumped the first few rocks and then the other one that was closest. Making sure that her partner was right next to her, she jumped again. I’m almost there! She hopped and hopped but then there was a loud splash, her partner fell in the water! Then another splash, it was the boy in the other group! She jumped and then jumped, almost there! Then there was a sudden shove, before she knew it, her foot slipped off the blue stone and splashed onto the water. “Oh! I’m so sorry!” the girl on the other team shouted. “Lemme help!” Alexis grabbed the girl’s hands and pulled her down into the water. She screamed, “What is your problem?” “You pushed me into the water first! Don’t blame me!” “I did not!” she retorted, her voice all wobbly with her British accent.” She took off her mask and looked at Alexis. “Woah.” It was a girl that looked exactly the same as the girl she sees in the mirror. The girl seemed to notice that too. There was a loud gasp behind the crowd. “Is that her …” “It must be!” “The hair!” “What’s everybody looking at?”, Alexis asked, looking innocently. “Don’t you see?”, the girl said. “No. What?” The girl sighed. “Look. We look exactly the same. I mean the hair, and then the eyes. Everything…it’s the same!”, her eyes gleamed. “What?” Alexis said. “No. Look at your nose! It’s pointy! Mines round and soft, and way better looking than yours.” The girl rolled her eyes and looked at Alexis. “There is nothing wrong with my nose. Just admit it, we look exactly the same.” “No we don’t.” Alexis said, still trying to be mean. “Fine. You want to know the real difference?” The girl asked. Alexis nodded. “I won the game and you didn’t. Isn’t that a difference?” Alexis grinned. “Oh you wanna bet?” Alexis snickered. “Oh yes I do”, she said, her voice getting all rough. “Alexis!” Wendy interrupted. “Come on let’s go.” Alexis nodded and brushed past the girl.
Few days passed since Alexis got pushed into the water.. “Alexis. There is a night game at Cabin six, wanna go?”, Wendy asked. “Sure why not, I’m going to bring some money.”, Alexis said. It was a dark night, the camp lights didn’t really shine through the road of the cabins, it shone on the cafeteria, which didn’t really help. Alexis almost tripped over a piece of pebble because of the amount of light provided on the road. When they got into the cabin, they saw a group of boys and girls in the cabin gathering around a small table. First, Alexis studied them, the girl that pushed her into the water was playing against a boy. “Spencer, you lost.” The girl said. “I won…again. Anyone else want to play cards?” Nobody answered. “I will.” Alexis said. She walked up to the table and sat down. “You again.” The girl said while shuffling her cards. “What’s the bet. Winners get all the money set on the table, and losers…” “walks around camp, from morning to night, 12 hours.” “That’s all? Lewis, you don’t know how to play games.” “NAKED.” Alexis added. “Like that better?” “Yes.” The girl said. “Start getting your nerves on!” Alexis spread out twenty-five American dollars, and five one-dollar coins. The girl passed out twenty pieces of British money and a bunch of tickets to these movie shows and national monument’s ticket, which Alexis would never go to. She passed out the cards, one by one and setting them down. “See which has the highest. It’s all about luck.”, the girl said. Alexis looked at her cards and smiled. Kings, Kings, Ace, Queen, and Ace. The other girl smiled too. “I’ve got, Kings, eight diamonds, ace, and queen.” She smiled. “Ohhh…that’s too bad, behold, I’ve got a royal flush.” She snickered. “Come on, you, get ready for tomorrow!” “The name’s Sara Madison!.” Sara finally said. “I cant believe I’m going to walk around camp…naked for a whole day. This is the worst arrangement ever!” She said worst like woh-st, with her strong British accent. Wendy smiled and winked at Alexis. “Sara, it’s alright, look at it this way, you pushed her into the water, and now she revenged herself, your both equal!” this girl who was Sara’s friend said. Sara glared at her. “Sorry!” “Well Sara Madison, see you tomorrow outside my cabin…no clothing at all. Ta-ta!”, Alexis said, as she collected her money and prized possessions. “I can’t do it!”, she whimpered. “It’s wrong for the daughter of Queen Elizabeth to do that!” Alexis gasped and ran back to her. “Did you just say, Queen Elizabeth?”, Alexis asked. “Of course, she’s my mother!”, Sara said. “Your Father is…then King Henry?” “Yes, why’d you ask?” Alexis shrugged and walked away.
“That was freaky.”, Wendy said as they walked out of the cabin. “She is Queen Elizabeth’s daughter? If she is, then why is she here at camp?” Wendy looked frightened, “She can tell on us because we won and she has to go around naked! She can tell!” Wendy’s eyes bulged out. “Good job, genius. You finally figured that out. Let’s just hope she doesn’t.”, Alexis said. “Hey, but then what’s with her last name? Madison? That’s not Queen Elizabeth’s last name at all! Otherwise, it’d be Elizabeth Madison, which of course is not a royal name!” “Maybe she was adopted. Or…she made up that name to fool everyone so that they wouldn’t think she’s the daughter of the queen!” “She is the heir of England!”, Alexis finally got this right. “She is adopted. I’m sure. The fact that she looks exactly like me. Maybe my mom and dad had twins, but then my mom lost one and then the Queen saw my twin and then adopted her, then here comes Sara, my twin. Oh my goodness. Did you just notice that her last name is the same as my street’s name?” Alexis looked confused. “Or…maybe it’s the other way around…just a coincidence that we look alike.” “Maybe she just wants to be a normal person for once, so she changed her last name.”, Wendy explained, “so she can have a normal summer for once!” Alexis smiled. We’ve got it. “Tomorrow, we’re going to do the climbing wall with our group. It’s going to be fun, and Sara’s in our group, maybe then we can ask her more questions!...but she wouldn’t want us to, because she’s going to be all …” Wendy whimpered. “naked.”
The trumpet blasted through Alexis’ ears for the fifth time that week. Its sounds roaring throughout camp. Alexis plopped herself out of bed and then ran for her jacket and the her pants. She quickly put them
On and then ran out. Sara wasn’t there yet. “Maybe she chickened out.”, Wendy suggested later on. “Yeah…despite the fact that she’s the princess of England, of course she’s chickening out.” Alexis couldn’t believe this, she ran to cabin six, where Sara’s cabin was, and knocked. A black haired girl opened and looked up at Alexis, “What are you doing here? Harming our friend…again?” “No, actually I was worried about her. How’s she doing?” The black haired girl looked at Alexis with suspicion. “Why.” “Listen, can I just come in? I don’t have much time.” The girl opened the door and let her in. She saw on the corner stood Sara, all alone confused on what to do. “Hey Sara…you okay?” She looked up and her eyes turned into slits, “What are you doing in here?”, she yelled. “Go away you slaughtered freak! We don’t welcome you here, and nor do I!” Her blue eyes stared icily into Alexis’ eyes. “Go away and leave me alone.” “Sheesh, I was just worried about what would happen to you…well, listen, if I can come here everyday to ask you some questions, and I mean everyday, you wont have to go around naked today, okay? But you have to promise me that you will answer every question!” “Of course! Princess Saramone Renolde accepts!”, Saramone says. “Your real name is Saramone?”, Alexis asked, all curious. “Actually…yes, but I call myself Sara for short.” “You are a princess?”, Alexis had lots of questions to ask. “Of course, do you want more proof?” Saramone asked. “Can I call you Saramone instead? It sounds…better”, Alexis laughed. Saramone nodded and she put on more layers of clothing on. The black haired girl looked at Alexis and said, “Hi, I’m Hannah.” Alexis looked out the window and saw someone brushing past by, and opening the door. It was a boy. He was holding something in particular and handed it to Saramone. It was a note. Saramone opened the note and looked at it.
Sara,
Meet me at midnight today in cafeteria.
Sara smiled and folded the note. “What was that?”, Alexis asked. “Oh, a note, he’s just a friend.” Sara smiled again. “Nope, not just a friend!” Alexis taunted. “Hey, I’m like fourteen already. Haven’t you got the idea that we might be twins?” Saramone said. “I mean…the face…the eyes.” “Of course I did! But let’s get back to that boy. What’s his name?” “Oh, he’s Cody Marshalls. He’s the person that cleans my room in the castle.
